Overview
Aflac is a leading provider of supplementary health insurance, helping protect more than 50 million people in the United States & Japan. The new Belfast technology centre is based at City Quays overlooking Belfast Harbour. With spectacular views onto the Lagan Waterfront and Harland and Wolff, City Quays is an ideal location for technology innovation with its modern facilities and amenities. The new premises will give the Global IT and Cybersecurity Innovation Centre the capacity to grow toward its goal of recruiting 150 people over the next 3 years with more than 11,000 square feet of office space. Working closely alongside RPP Architects, we utilised the opportunity to design and develop flexible space in a manner which aligns with staff requirements, helping to create a hub encouraging motivation and productivity for technological innovation.
Aflac Northern Ireland wanted a spacious open feel, but with areas of privacy for phone-calls and one-to one meetings, so the spaces include booths and a privacy ‘pod’, alongside height adjustable desks, soft seating and break-out zones for collaboration opportunities. Through a clever use of technology and acoustics, we have helped deliver a workplace that provides a logical way for Aflac Northern Ireland's staff to work creatively and productively. The furniture selection incorporates a variety of ‘activity based’ work settings. The kitchen break-out space provides a meeting spot that is sure to become the social hub of the office, reflecting the trend of the ‘domestic finishes in office design’. The linear high counter bench with high stools creates a distinctly homely feel to encourage staff to feel relaxed throughout the day.
