Members from Alpha's Belfast Team headed over to the Lagan to donate over 40 chairs to the Lagan Dragons, Northern Ireland's first Dragon Boat club for people affected either directly or indirectly by Breast Cancer.

Who are the Lagan Dragons?

Research has demonstrated that participation in regular, repetitive and strenuous activity (such as dragon boating) in a socially supportive environment offers benefits for those who have undergone breast cancer surgery.

Aware of this research and the success of dragon boat clubs in Canada, the United States of America and England, the Belfast-based club was formed by Joanne Rock back in March 2015.

Although they are primarily a breast cancer survivors club, they have Community Amateur Sports Club status and as such are open to the whole community - this also includes non breast cancer individuals, who make up around 25% of their membership!

Their misson

The Lagan Dragon's mission is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, provide opportunities for participation in dragon boating, offer wellness education and develop a supportive community to help those affected directly or indirectly by breast cancer.
